What does an osteopath do?

An osteopath is a specialist in hands-on treatment of the musculoskeletal system. First they assess your posture, joint mobility and tension in muscles and connective tissue, looking for the cause of the problem, not just the spot that hurts. Then gentle manual techniques release tension, improve mobility and help the body regain balance.

People most often visit an osteopath in Maribor for pain in the spine, neck and shoulders, headaches, tension from prolonged sitting or after injuries.

What happens at the first visit to an osteopath?

The first visit begins with a conversation about your complaints and any past injuries. This is followed by an assessment of posture and mobility, then manual treatment, and finally we discuss next steps and how many visits make sense. Bring any previous results (X-ray, MRI). Appointments are made in advance: book an appointment.

Holistic view of the body

Osteopathy as the central branch of our practice

Dr. Verbitskiy uses precise diagnostics and safe manual techniques to find the true cause of problems rather than merely relieving symptoms, making osteopathy one of the most holistic forms of manual treatment.

Which conditions we treat

When the body loses balance

The osteopathic principle is based on the idea that the body is an interconnected whole — a problem in one area (for example the pelvis) often appears as pain elsewhere (for example the neck or shoulders). Therefore osteopathic treatment with Dr. Verbitskiy does not only target the site of pain but the pattern that caused it.

Osteopathy and conventional medicine

Complement, not a substitute for treatment

Osteopathy with Dr. Verbitskiy is intended as a complement, not a replacement for specialist care. If a more serious pathology is suspected (fracture, inflammation, neurological deficit) we will refer you to the appropriate physician. When the issue involves functional limitations of the musculoskeletal system — blockages, muscle imbalance, postural overloads — osteopathic treatment is often the first and most direct route to improvement.

Many patients come to us after having undergone imaging diagnostics (X-ray, MRI) with their physician and are seeking a non-surgical solution to manage pain and improve body function.

Osteopathy, manual therapy, chiropractic

Osteopathy, manual therapy and chiropractic – what is the difference?

Osteopathy, manual therapy and chiropractic are related hands-on methods that people most often look for when they have problems with the spine, neck or joints. Osteopathy views the body as a whole and links the mobility of joints, muscles and connective tissue. Manual therapy covers a broad range of manual techniques for joint mobility and relief of muscle tension. Chiropractic focuses mainly on the mobility of the spine and joints.

At Dr. Verbitskiy's practice the methods are combined when needed: after the examination we choose the most suitable approach together. How I work

Hands as a diagnostic tool in osteopathy

I begin an osteopathic examination with the findings you bring (X-ray, MRI), then use my hands to assess the mobility of tissues, fascia and joints. By touch I feel where there is tension, where movement is restricted and where a particular structure is pulling.

The hands-on examination is already part of the treatment. I choose the technique according to the findings and how you feel, and we talk throughout about what is comfortable for you. More about hands-on techniques: manual therapy.
